Who Are We?
We are Combat Veterans who served in Vietnam; on the ground, in the air and on the water. We follow the code established by our Brothers, the first returning Viet Nam Vets who formed Outlaw motorcycle clubs. We are not allied with any other motorcycle club. We do not claim territory and we are not 1%ER. We respect all motorcycle clubs and follow local protocol established by the dominant 1%ER motorcycle club. We have the right to defend ourselves. We have paid our dues in Vietnam and in each of the many states in which we ride. We claim a special kinship with all men who served In Country Vietnam. We say "Welcome Home, Brother," and for our Brothers who did not come home we say "Rest in Peace, you will NEVER be forgotten."
The IN COUNTRY MOTORCYCLE CLUB was conceived and founded in late 1994 by a small group of Vietnam veterans in Illinois who had served in country, and wanted to ride together in a motorcycling brotherhood with a desire to support and assist each other, other veterans, veterans widows and dependents, and other members of the community. The club is wholly benevolent in purpose and organization.
Following appropriate protocols, the founders met with the senior clubs in their area and received approval to wear the patch they had designed - an IN COUNTRY top rocker, a stylized version of the Vietnam Service Medal as a center patch, an MC patch, and their unit ID as a bottom rocker.
A Constitution and Bylaws were drawn up, and the club was incorporated as a not-for-profit war veterans MC in Illinois. In line with their motto of "Vets Helping Vets", they applied for, and were granted an IRS 501c(19) federal tax exempt status.
In the ten years since the club was founded, it has grown to include members, chapters, and charters all over the U.S., but as of 2002, the first International chapter was formed, comprised of Vietnam veterans living in Germany.
The IN COUNTRY MOTORCYCLE CLUB-TEXAS began in 2004 when, after following appropriate protocols, Texas members met with the senior clubs in Texas and received approval to fly our patch.
All our members have served at least one tour of duty "In Country" and have earned the Vietnam Service Medal. Combat Veterans who served in Vietnam and currently ride motorcycles are a limited resource. Our "youngsters" are in their fifties, our older members are on social security. We cannot recruit younger Veterans to become the "next generation" of our club. The last patch holder living will retire the patch.
IN COUNTRY MC strongly supports the Coalition of Clubs and has members serving as officers in many states; In Texas we have a member serving as Vice Chairman of the West Texas COC, and the newly formed In Country Texas I-Corps is active in the Austin COC and Houston COC, with a member on the Houston COC Board.
